A quick visit to Northumberland, above, this weekend.
I always love the run to the end of the year; the back-to-school September feeling, with their crisp mornings, seems to give me more energy and drive — much better than the energy-sapping heat of July and August.

Investing, nudging & politicking
I share the most interesting articles I’ve read each week in 9others’s ‘Weekend Reading’, which you can see and subscribe to here, but today I wanted to share the most interesting podcasts I’ve listened to in the last few weeks.
The Tim Ferriss Show, “Roelof Botha — Investing with the Best”. As well as writing 10^9 in his notepad Roelof gives a great insight into ‘crucible decisions’, which are company decisions (but also life decisions) that are way more than a mere ‘pivot’.
Paradigm Shift, “EP29: Keith Rabois“. Lots of terrific insights, as ever, from the fast-talking Keith and I really enjoyed hearing about how he looks for that ‘spark’ when meeting early stage founders — is there something about this person that will make them bend the world to their will?
Nudge, How to make someone say yes. A great short episode with some reminders and practical applications from Robert B Cialdini’s book, ‘Influence’, and others including the door-in-the-face technique and how the speed of counter-offers can mean success or failure.
The Rest is Politics, Freezing bills, mental health in politics, and Rory’s new job. “I might as well get it out there…” says Alastair. All these episodes are informative and interesting but this one particularly so because right at the beginning Alastair talks about being right in the middle of a depressive episode. Both he and Rory then share the stresses and their internal conflict of people wanting them to ‘do something’. More on that from Rory, here.
Sam Harris, #290 What went wrong. A conversation with Marc Andreessen and a terrific discussion around the Bitcoin white paper, the mystery surrounding the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, as well as Marc’s background, starting A16Z in a huge recession and why advertising became the business model of the internet.
After The Wall and the summer I’m back into long runs so if you have any favourite investment, politics or life-story podcast episodes please hit reply and let me know.
